AWAIS KHAN

PROFESSIONAL EDITOR

Awais Khan is an award-winning novelist, editor and creative-writing mentor whose experience spans commercial publishing, manuscript development and the practical realities of building a long-term writing career.

He is the author of In the Company of Strangers, No Honour, Someone Like Her and In the Shadows of Love, with his work published by major independent and international publishers including Simon & Schuster, Orenda Books and Hera Books, as well as in audiobook by Isis Audio. His debut, In the Company of Strangers, became a national bestseller in Pakistan and is now being developed as a feature film by UK-based Kids Fight Productions.

Awais’s writing has received international recognition, and he has been featured by Forbes, appeared in a standalone episode of the BBC’s In the Studio, and regularly contributes to literary events, television and radio. He has also served as a judge for literary prizes including the Cheshire Novel Prize and the Gwyl Crime Cymru Novel Prize.

Alongside his own writing, Awais has extensive experience helping other writers develop their work. He is the founder of The Writing Institute, through which he has taught aspiring authors in Pakistan and internationally, and has delivered creative-writing lectures at institutions including Durham University, the American University in Dubai and the Canadian University Dubai.

A graduate of the University of Western Ontario and Durham University, Awais also studied creative writing and editing with the prestigious Faber Academy in London. His own route to publication involved developing manuscripts with professional editors, securing literary representation and working with publishers across multiple markets, giving him a strong understanding of both the creative and commercial sides of publishing.

As an editor, Awais offers thoughtful, practical guidance grounded in his experience as both a published author and writing teacher. He can help writers strengthen characterisation, structure, pacing, voice and emotional impact while preserving the qualities that make the manuscript distinctly their own.
